Art 1. General Information
The Amateur Sports Association of Val d’Ossola (L’Associazione Sportiva Dilettantistica Val d’Ossola), in collaboration with the historic Societa Sportive GSD Genzianella (Vb0025) (to be called hereafter ‘The Organisation’), are organizing for the second time on Sunday, 24th June 2018 a non-competitive walking/running event to be known as the StràGrandaMonteRosa.
This sporting event involves three different races along the route registered within the Regione Piemonte as “la Strà Granda – cod.800 Regione Piemonte”. It is an old stone pathway passing through pages of history and an area of rare beauty.
It’s an ancient route that was used by merchants who came and went from Switzerland crossing over the high pass of Monte Moro. Via this route travellers brought not only a range of goods to the markets of the Ossola region, but also extracted gold from the various mines located throughout the Valle Anzasca.

Fornarelli devia il suo percorso verso il lago delle Fate per raggiungere l'Alpe Bletza da qui una impegnativa discesa porta al lago Secco per poi risalire sviluppandosi su i sentieri “cod. B41a e cod. B46 Regione Piemonte” portando i concorrenti all’Alpe Rosareccio – Piani Alti di Rosareccio cod. B43 – Alpe Pedriola cod. B47 – Ghiacciaio del Belvedere e Alpe Burki cod. B45 per poi raggiungere il traguardo a Macugnaga in frazione Pecetto.
Art 2. The Race and Timetable of Departure
Each race develops in a single stage, at a free speed, in a time sustainable within a regime of semi-autonomy.
SKY MARATHON 45 km. = 3.100 D+ (1.950 D-) is a race for those with advanced Trailing experience.
STRA'GRANDA RACE 32 Km. = 1.950 D+ (921 D-) is race for everyone.
STAFFETTA A TRE 32 km. = 1.950 D+ (921 D-) is race for everyone.

Art 3. Conditions of Participation
It is necessary:
to be fully aware of the length and specifics of the race and to be adequately prepared.
Before the race, to be experienced and understand the level of personal responsibility necessary to undertake such an event in the mountains in order to best manage the type of problems that may arise from this type of race.
By personal responsibility it is understood that participants will be able to sustain themselves between each point of refreshment where snacks and food will be provided on site; to have the ability to cope alone, without help, in the event of the climatic conditions that occur at this altitude (such as wind, cold, fog, rain, etc.) and to be able to manage such physical and/or psychological problems arising from excessive tiredness, gastrointestinal problems, muscle or joint pain, small wounds, etc. even if isolated,
Each runner must carry with them all compulsory equipment.
Those participating in the SKY MARATHON 45km race are strictly advised to have taken part in at least one other competition of a similar length and test of endurance.
Art 4. Registration
REGISTRATION MUST BE MADE BEFORE AND NO LATER THAN MIDNIGHT OF THURSDAY, 24nd JUNE 2018.
Registration is open to all participants who have renewed their FIDAL card for the 2018 season.
To participate you must have a valid medical certificate (a non-returnable photocopy must be available. It is not sufficient just to show a valid medical certificate, even if it is the original.)
You must sign the declaration that you are fit to participate (see box on Registration Form).
Participation is open to all Athletes who have reached the age of 18 at the time of registration.
In relation to the 45km race, there is a maximum age limit of 64 years.
Cost of Registration
1. Sky Marathon 45 km = Euro 30.00
2. StràGranda race 32 km = Euro 25.00
3. Staffetta for 3 (“a tre”) 32 km = Euro 30.00 per team
Registration may be done via the internet at www.wedosport.it by completing each box on the registration form.
Payment may be made online using a credit card, pre-paid card or by bank transfer.

In relation to the Team Event (Staffetta “a tre”): it is possible to register and make payment at the following official points by a method most suitable for the Team and the Society/Charity that they are representing. These points are:

2. Mosoni Sport, via Giovanni XIII, Domodossola
3. Centro Calzaturiero Via Nazionale Dresio 180 - Vogogna
Registration is exclusive to the person registering and cannot be altered. It will not be possible either to change the number placard, or to substitute another runner on their behalf.
No reimbursement will be made in the event of either cancellation by the person registered, or in the case of missing the event,
Art 5. Issue of Number Placard and Race Pack
The number placard must be worn in such a way that it is completely visible throughout the race. This means it must be placed outside all clothing. It should not be attached to a rucksack or on a leg. (This is in order to facilitate the monitoring of the race by officials without runners being stopped).

- SATURDAY, 23th June 2018 between 10.00 and 12.00 - 15.00 and 19.00
- SUNDAY, 24th June 2017 from 05.00 am until 30 minutes before the departure of each race

Art 6. Equipment
All participants are expected to have the compulsory equipment necessary for this type of race. The equipment indicated below represents not only the bare minimum with which to undertake this race with safety but also the minimum necessary should any emergency arise.
Compulsory equipment for those undertaking the Sky Marathon 45 km is:
A mobile telephone with the emergency number of the Organisation saved in Contacts (insert emergency no here)
The mobile should be kept within easy reach with the number of the Organisation readily available and the telephone battery fully charged.
Either water bottles or a camel bag containing at least 1 litre of water.
A Kway or wind proof jacket
2 energy bars
Equipment advised for each of the three races:
A mobile telephone with the emergency number of the Organisation saved in Contacts; the telephone should always be kept within easy reach; the emergency number easily accessible; and the telephone battery fully charged.
Hat or headband
Water Bottles or Camel Bag
Art 7. Gates and Maximum Time
The maximum time in which to undertake each of the following races is:
Sky Marathon 45 km = 8 hours 30 minutes
StràGranda race 32 km = 7 hours
Sky Marathon 45 km = 5 hours 30 minutes from the departure
Situated in Staffa, Macugnaga (under the Old Lime Tree) at about 30 km.
Art 8. The Course of the Race and Signage
The course of the three races will in the main, follow the route of the old mule track of the Anzasca Valley known as the Strà Granda B00. The Sky Marathon 45 km then follows a mountain path for the final leg of about 15 km (coded as B43 and B45) crossing difficult terrain such as the Belvedere Glacier.
All runners must rigorously respect and keep to the route of the race. It will be clearly signposted with cards, tape and flags. These signs will be shown to participants at their briefings. With respect to the environment these signs – bands, arrows and ecological paint - will be biodegradable.
At the end of the event the Organisation will ensure the collection of all signage and their disposal.
Any departure from the race course will result in the disqualification of the participant at the finishing line. Any such departure is dangerous and could place the runner at risk.

Art 9. Safety and Medical Assistance
Representatives of the Organisation will be based at various points along the course. They will be in constant contact with their Health and Safety colleagues via radio or telephone throughout the course of the race.
Any runner who is injured or in difficulty can call a Safety representative either by:
Presenting themselves at a Safety Point or a Refreshment Point:
Calling the Emergency Number printed on their number placard;
Calling another runner to contact the Safety representative.
Every runner must come to the assistance of any other runner in difficulty and contact a Safety Representative. A runner who makes a call to a doctor or to a rescuer agrees to abide by their authority and commits him/herself to respect their decisions.
For safety reasons all runners must remain on the route of the race until reaching the end.
There will be a security service following the final runner in order to provide help in any eventuality and to ensure that no injured person remains without assistance.
Art 10. Control Points and Refreshment Stops
Control points will be set up along the race course where representatives of the Organisation will monitor the passage of the athletes. Any athlete who contests such control will be immediately disqualified.
Notwithstanding the semi-autonomous nature of the race, there will be 9 refreshment stops along the race course providing liquids and snacks.
The official refreshment stops will be:
Castiglione - km 5,5 liquids
Calasca - km 10 liquids + solids
Pontegrande - km 13 liquids + mineral salt supplements
Vanzone S.Carlo liquids + solids
Ceppo Morelli - km 20 liquids + solids
Pestarena - km 27 liquids + solids + mineral salt supplements
Lago delle Fate - km 30 liquids + solids + mineral salt supplements
Piani Alti di Rosareccio - km 38 liquids + mineral salt supplements
Rifugio Zamboni Zappa - km 40,5 liquids
Arrivo - km 45 / 32 / staffetta liquids + solids + fruit
Art 11. The Environment
All runners must behave in a manner respectful of the environment, in particular avoid throwing away rubbish and harming plant life.
Rubbish bins will be provided at every official Refreshment Stop for the disposal cups or anything else used during their refreshment stop.
Anyone found discarding rubbish along the route of the course will be disqualified from the race.
This event supports the campaign “I do not throw away rubbish”.
Art 12.Withdrawal from the Race
Except in cases of extreme emergency, a runner should only abandon the race close to a refreshment stop or by calling the emergency number printed on their number card.
Should a runner turn back and communication is lost resulting in a search party, the athlete will be held responsible for the costs arising from the search.
Art 13. Weather
The Organisation has an unchallengeable right to either postpone, cancel or modify the route as it deems necessary should adverse weather conditions arise,
Art 14. Prizes
No monetary prizes will be awarded.
10 men and 10 women will be awarded thr Sky Marathon 45 km
will be awarded 5 men and 5 women who finish the Stranda Granda Race 32 km
Team Race: A prize will be awarded to members of the first three men-only teams, the first three women-only teams, and the first three mixed teams.
An annual Trophy will also be awarded to the first team of the “society”, consisting of the first three athletes with FIDAL membership of the same society. The trophy is awarded in memory of “Luigi Gigi Corti” an Alpinist “whose memory will never die”.
The winners of this Trophy will pass it on to the winners at the following year’s event.
Art 15. Services
The following services are available to participating athletes:
Shuttle bus – available upon reservation to return in the afternoon
Shuttle bus – available upon reservation for the morning departure
Art 16. Lunch
It is expected that a Pasta Party with drinks will be provided throughout the day at the finishing line, available until the final competitor has arrived.
Art 17. Bus – Shuttle Bus
A shuttle bus will be available for the return journey from Macugnaga to Piedimulera.

It is also possible to return to Piedimulera by the regular Comazzi bus service on payment of bus fare. This service leaves from Pecetto at 16.20 arriving at Piedimulera at 17.25
Shuttle Bus for Morning departure
It is expected that a transport service will be provided for those who need to reach the departure point on Sunday morning, having spent the night in the Anzasca Valley

Art 18. Overnight Stay
The Organisation will provide assistance to those who for logistical reasons need to spend the night near the point of departure at Piedimulera.

Art 19. Complaints
In accordance with the spirit of ‘Trail’, the Organisation, anticipates complete courtesy from all participating athletes. While deploring complaints of an insignificant nature, they welcome constructive comments for the improvement of future events.
Art 20. Copyright on Photography and Declaration of Responsibility
On registration, all participants authorize the Organisation to use, without limitation of country or time, the use of all photographs taken, either stationary or in movement, portraying their participation in the event.
Participating athletes voluntary registration and subsequent participation in the race indicates full acceptance of these conditions.
Art 21. Data Privacy
Having read and accepted the above conditions (on registration) authorise the holding of their personal details under the regulations D.Lgs 30/6/2003 n.196 e.s.m.i. “Law covering the protection of personal data.”
